On 30 August 1878 the first recorded licensee was Edward Partridge, when the licence was transferred from Old Restaurant, St. Peter Mancoft. In 1890 the landlord was also listed as a bowling-green proprietor and the old bowling green has since become a large beer-garden at the rear of the pub. It was a Courage pub in the 1970s. Located in the heart of the Golden Triangle, the pub serves a wide range of ales, craft beers and lagers, home-cooked pub grub and popular Sunday roasts. There is a newly refurbished function room upstairs available for private hire.
