History

The building is 17th century and Grade II listed. The first known licensee was William Haylett Roe in 1841. The cellar is believed to be part of Norwich’s famous ‘Underground Tunnel Network’. In the 1960s it was popular with folk clubs, but closed several times during the 1970s.
The Walnut Tree Shades has featured in at least two episodes of Tales of the Unexpected.
Claire and Dale Brooks have been running the Walnut, under Enterprise Inns, since 2010.

Info

The Walnut Tree Shades has live music every week – a mix of Rock, Jazz,
Blues and Rockabilly including open mic every Thursday – Check events/web
for details.

On ground level you walk into the bar, it has the feel of a community pub
in the heart of the city centre; you will find a warm welcome, along with
the long bar, Wurlitzer style replica jukebox and walls covered with music
memorabilia.
At the bar you will find an extensive range of drinks available including
great local cask ales.

The hidden secret is on the first floor, recently revamped,
it still has its Tiffany lamps and booth seating, but no longer an
American diner, the space is available for a large party or celebration, as well as
housing our pool table.

The first floor is available for private hire, please call ahead to book
(min 24 hours)

We serve a wide range of good quality, reasonably priced food, including
fish, chilli, ribs and burgers, using three local butchers.
