History

Originally listed as The Two Brewers from approx. 1843, the pub obtained its current name The Cellar House by at least 1845 (though it was often still referred to as The Two Brewers). It may have been known before 1842 as The Victoria following Queen Victoria’s accession to the throne in 1837.

Now a Grade II listed building, the pub stands proudly on the old London Road – now Eaton Street – and is described as having ‘an early 19th century rendered classically proportioned façade with a slate roof, but may internally have earlier origins.’ The large garden beside the pub was once the village bowling green – hence the level of the lawn.
