History

Listed from 1845, the pub, originally named the Shrub House, occupied the corner of St Andrews and Exchange Street. In 1974 it was extended to take in Rumsey Wells, gents outfitters, from whence it takes its current name. It closed in 1979, and re-opened in 1985 as Blueberries, with the corner bar becoming a newsagents. It became St Andrew’s Tavern in 1989 when it was taken over by Colin Keatley of the Fat Cat. Adnams bought the pub in 1998 and the tie continues to the present day. It was renamed Rumsey Wells in 2008.
