History

A merchant’s house prior to the 1800s, the main building dates back to the 16th century and the back yard dates to the 14th century.  The first licensee in 1822 was John Gray. The pub was damaged by enemy action on 27 April 1942. It closed in 2009 and re-opened in 2010 under ownership of the Grain Brewery, Alburgh.
